Digital Canada 150 will Boost Digital Adoption, Grow Companies and Create Jobs

Last week, the federal government unveiled its Digital Canada 150 Strategy, an update to Canada’s digital strategy and vision of what Canada can achieve by its 150th anniversary, in 2017, and beyond.

The vision underscored by five key pillars: connecting Canadians, protecting Canadians, economic opportunities, digital government and Canadian content.

For BC tech companies, the strategy underscores the Government’s commitment to the ICT and digital sector in Canada and consolidates many of the previously announced programs and initiatives introduced over the past few years under a common framework.

Among the highlights of the strategy:

  • Ensuring Accessibility. The strategy commits to expanded broadband access to reach 98 per cent of all Canadian households, thereby ensuring that the benefits of digital technology are made available to virtually all Canadians The strategy commits to expanded broadband access to reach 98 per cent of all Canadian households, thereby ensuring that the benefits of digital technology are made available to virtually all Canadians

Canadians already rank among the world’s leading nations in our adoption and use of digital technologies. By setting out a framework, the Government has created an opportunity for organizations like BCTIA to provide meaningful input towards the shaping of initiatives and deliberate investments that will broaden our leadership role in years to come.
